Step by step

1. Follow a chant in the chanting book, in Thai, Pali and English.
2. Make a free account with Sign up (no card), so your progress is saved.
3. Learn the alphabet and ThaiBridge Spelling, so you can read and say Thai words correctly.
4. Follow the learning path below, one section at a time, and ask the AI tutor whenever you're stuck.

🚀 Getting started in 3 steps

1. Pick a starting point. Use the Learn menu — the Alphabet and ThaiBridge Spelling are good places to begin.
2. Explore a topic. Use the Learn menu for vocabulary, grammar, lessons and more — or dip into Culture and Buddhism.
3. Ask the AI tutor. Stuck on anything? The AI Tutor can explain, give hints, and answer questions in plain English.

🔊 Learn tones early — it really matters

Thai is a tonal language: the same syllable said with a different tone becomes a completely different word (มา “come” vs หมา “dog”). If you learn tones from the very beginning, correct pronunciation becomes a habit — leave them until later and they're much harder to un-learn.

The good news: tones aren't guesswork — they follow clear rules based on consonant class. Our Tones & Consonant Classes section teaches the whole system with practice drills.

📿 The Digital Chanting Book

What it's for

Following the chanting at the temple and understanding what it means. The whole chanting book is here, page by page, with the same page numbers as the printed book. It's free for everyone, with no account needed.

Where to start

Open the Digital Chanting Book from the Buddhism menu.

Step by step

1. Type the page number the monk calls out into Page and press Open.
2. Tap Verse by verse to see every layer. As the book prints it shows only what the printed page shows.
3. Choose your layers. There are five: the Pali in Thai script, the Pali in Roman letters, the Thai translation, the Thai in ThaiBridge Spelling, and the English meaning. Untick any you don't need.
4. Search for a chant by its name in Thai, Pali or English, or browse the contents.
5. Read about the chant. Each one explains when it's chanted and what it means.

What it's for

Where to start

Tap ✍️ Sign up in the top menu.

Step by step

1. Choose a username, enter your email and pick a password.
2. You're signed in straight away. Your XP and level are saved to your account.

🔤 Learning Thai, in order

What it's for

Building real Thai step by step: reading, sounds, polite speech and everyday conversation, with audio on Thai words and sentences.

Where to start

The 🔤 Alphabet and ThaiBridge Spelling, both free. ThaiBridge Spelling writes Thai sounds in English letters, so you can say Thai words correctly from the first day.

Step by step

1. Pass the alphabet quiz (35 of the 44 consonants). It opens the rest of the Learn menu.
2. Learn ThaiBridge Spelling and try 🗣️ Survival Thai, the free starter phrases.
3. Work down the path below. Each section opens at its level, as you earn XP.

☸️ Buddhism and meditation

What it's for

Understanding the Theravada teachings and practising them. All of it is free for everyone, always: the Dhamma is never behind a paywall.

Where to start

🪷 Dhamma, Culture & Thailand, which explains what is universal teaching and what is Thai custom.

Step by step

1. 🌏 Practising the Dhamma Anywhere: the practice itself, wherever you live.
2. ☸️ Theravada Dhamma and its 🪷 Dhamma Talks.
3. 📿 Pra Kru Bob's Writings and the 📖 Journal.
4. 🧘 Meditation: guided sessions, techniques and a timer.
5. Questions? Ask the AI tutor in ☸️ Buddhist mode (5 questions a day, on their own allowance).

🤖 The AI tutor

What it's for

Help at any time of day: explaining why, not just what, in plain English.

Where to start

Open the 🤖 AI Tutor and choose a mode.

Step by step

1. Pick the mode that fits what you need (table below).
2. Type your question in English or Thai.
3. Ask follow-up questions in the same chat. It remembers the conversation.

Thai Master has every mode, with fair use up to 75 messages a day.

🏆 Levels, XP and unlocking

What it's for

Showing your progress and opening new sections in a sensible order, so nothing arrives before you're ready for it.

Check 🏆 My Progress to see your level, your XP and what opens next.

Step by step

1. Earn XP by visiting new sections and answering quiz questions correctly.
2. Level up as your XP grows. Each section in the learning path opens at its level.
3. Pass the alphabet quiz first. Most Learn sections need it.
4. Claim your free section at Level 3 (250 XP): open one Thai Reader section of your choice, free and for good. My Progress shows when it's ready.

⭐ Plans and prices

What it's for

Choosing how much of the language course you want. Everything about the Dhamma stays free whichever plan you're on.

Where to start

Compare the plans on ⭐ Premium. You can see every section, including the paid ones, before you pay anything.

The yearly price is ten months, so you save two. Thai Master members can also buy the one-off Instant Access Pass (£14.99), which opens every section without levelling.

Step by step

1. Choose a plan on Premium and pay securely.

🧡 Monk Mode (for monastics)

Monk Mode is a free track for monks and nuns — written for Thai monastics learning English and Western monastics learning Thai. When it's on, the monk lesson track opens at no cost. Everything else works exactly as it does with Monk Mode off. 🙏

• It starts switched off. Everyone begins with Monk Mode off — it's only ever on if you turn it on yourself.
• To turn it on, open Monk Mode in the menu and enter the access code shared by your temple or teacher.
• To turn it off, click the "🧡 Monk Mode: ON" button in the top menu at any time — no code needed.

♿ Learning Support (easier reading & read aloud)

♿ Learning Support in the top menu is for learners with dyslexia, ADHD, autism, low vision or visual stress — and anyone who finds long stretches of English tiring. Switch on only what helps you; everything is saved on your own device and never sent to us.

• Easy-to-read font — swaps in Atkinson Hyperlegible, a font designed so similar letters can't be mistaken for each other.
• Bigger text — scales the whole site up.
• Extra letter & line spacing — gives words room to breathe, which many dyslexic readers find easier to follow.
• Quiz sounds — a short chime for a right answer, a soft note for a wrong one, and a few rising notes when you level up. On to start with; untick it for silent quizzes.

🔊 How to use Read aloud

Read aloud uses your browser's own voice to speak the English text — Thai keeps its own recorded audio buttons. You choose what gets read using the "what should I read?" dropdown, so you're never stuck listening to a whole page:

1. The whole page — press 🔊 Read aloud and it reads the page from the top.
2. A part I click on — press 🔊 Read aloud, then click any paragraph or heading on the page. It highlights as you point at it, and only that part is read. Press Esc to cancel.
3. Text I have highlighted — highlight the text you want with your mouse first, then press 🔊 Read aloud.

Press the button again at any time to stop — it changes to ⏹ Stop reading while it's speaking. The line underneath the button always tells you what to do next, and Turn all off clears every setting and silences the voice.

💡 Handy tips

• Zoom freely. The pages adjust to your browser zoom (anywhere from 25% to 500%) — tables fill the space when there's room and scroll sideways when there isn't, so nothing gets cut off.
• Use the side menu. On learning pages, the menu on the left stays in view as you scroll, so you can jump between topics easily.
• Some sections are locked. Reach the required level (and, for some areas, subscribe) to open everything up.

🧭 How the pages are laid out

ThaiBridge AI doesn't force one layout on every page. Instead, each page uses the shape that fits its job — which is why a reading page looks different from a tool or a short info page. There are four:
