Yathā pāvussako megho thanayanto savijjuko.

like a rain-cloud in the wet season, thundering with lightning.

Tadā so paccudāvatti, saṅkuddho asayaṃvase.

Then he turned back, enraged and not his own master.

Tañca sabbaṃ abhiññāya vavakkhitvāna cakkhumā

Having directly known all of that, having surveyed it, the One with vision

Tato āmantayī satthā sāvake sāsane rate:

then addressed, as Teacher, the disciples who delight in the teaching:

“Mārasenā abhikkantā. Te vijānātha bhikkhavo”.

“Māra's host has come. Know them, bhikkhus.”

Te ca ātappa-makaruṃ sutvā buddhassa sāsanaṃ.

And they made an ardent effort, having heard the Buddha's instruction.

Vītarāgehi pakkāmuṃ. N’esaṃ lomampi iñjayuṃ.

From those free of lust it withdrew. Not one hair of theirs was stirred.

“Sabbe vijitasaṅgāmā bhayātītā yasassino

“All of them victors in the battle, gone beyond fear, of renown,

Modanti saha bhūtehi sāvakā te jane sutā”ti.

they rejoice together with the beings — those disciples of yours are famed among people.”
