สัสสะมะณะพ๎ราห๎มะณิยา ปะชายะ สะเทวะมะนุสสายะ,

Sassamaṇabrāhmaṇiyā pajāya sadevamanussāya,

in this generation with its ascetics and brahmins, its rulers and its people,

อะนุตตะรัง สัมมาสัมโพธิง อะภิสัมพุทโธ,

Anuttaraṃ sammāsambodhiṃ abhisambuddho,

awakened fully to the unsurpassed perfect enlightenment.

นิสสังสะยัง โข โส ภะคะวา,

Nissaṃsayaṃ kho so bhagavā,

Beyond doubt that Blessed One is

อะระหัง สัมมาสัมพุทโธ,

Arahaṃ sammāsambuddho,

worthy, fully enlightened by himself,

วิชชาจะระณะสัมปันโน,

Vijjācaraṇasampanno,

accomplished in knowledge and conduct,

สุคะโต,

Sugato,

well gone,

โลกะวิทู.

Lokavidū.

knower of worlds.

อะนุตตะโร ปุริสะทัมมะสาระถิ,

Anuttaro purisadammasārathi,

unsurpassed guide of those who are to be tamed,

สัตถา เทวะมะนุสสานัง,

Satthā devamanussānaṃ,

teacher of devas and of human beings,

พุทโธ,

Buddho,

awakened,

ภะคะวา.

Bhagavā.

blessed.

ส๎วากขาโต โข ปะนะ เตนะ ภะคะวะตา ธัมโม,

Svākkhāto kho pana tena bhagavatā dhammo,

And well proclaimed by that Blessed One is the Dhamma,

สันทิฏฐิโก,

Sandiṭṭhiko,

visible here and now,

อะกาลิโก,

Akāliko,

not delayed in time,

เอหิปัสสิโก,

Ehipassiko,

inviting one to come and see,

โอปะนะยิโก,

Opanayiko,

leading onward,

ปัจจัตตัง เวทิตัพโพ วิญญูหิ.

Paccattaṃ veditabbo viññūhi.

to be known for themselves by the wise.

สุปะฏิปันโน โข ปะนัสสะ ภะคะวะโต สาวะกะสังโฆ,

Supaṭipanno kho panassa bhagavato sāvakasaṅgho,

And well practised is that Blessed One's community of disciples,

อุชุปะฏิปันโน ภะคะวะโต สาวะกะสังโฆ,

Ujupaṭipanno bhagavato sāvakasaṅgho,

straightly practised is the Blessed One's community of disciples,

ญายะปะฏิปันโน ภะคะวะโต สาวะกะสังโฆ,

Ñāyapaṭipanno bhagavato sāvakasaṅgho,

rightly practised is the Blessed One's community of disciples,

สามีจิปะฏิปันโน ภะคะวะโต สาวะกะสังโฆ,

Sāmīcipaṭipanno bhagavato sāvakasaṅgho,

properly practised is the Blessed One's community of disciples,

ยะทิทัง.

Yadidaṃ.

that is to say,

จัตตาริ ปุริสะยุคานิ อัฏฐะ ปุริสะปุคคะลา,

Cattāri purisayugāni aṭṭha purisapuggalā,

the four pairs of persons, the eight kinds of individuals —

เอสะ ภะคะวะโต สาวะกะสังโฆ,

Esa bhagavato sāvakasaṅgho,

this is the Blessed One's community of disciples,

อาหุเนยโย,

Āhuneyyo,

worthy of gifts,

ปาหุเนยโย,

Pāhuneyyo,

worthy of hospitality,

ทักขิเณยโย,

Dakkhiṇeyyo,

worthy of offerings,

อัชะลีกะระณีโย,

Ajalikaraṇīyo,

worthy of reverential salutation,

อะนุตตะรัง ปุญญักเขตตัง โลกัสสะ.

Anuttaraṃ puññakkhettaṃ lokassa.

an unsurpassed field of merit for the world.

อะยัง โข ปะนะ ถูโป ตัง ภะคะวันตัง อุททิสสะ กะโต ยาวะเทวะ ทัสสะเนนะ,

Ayaṃ kho pana thūpo taṃ bhagavantaṃ uddissa kato yāvadeva dassanena,

And this stūpa was made dedicated to that Blessed One, only so that by the sight of it

ตัง ภะคะวันตัง อะนุสสะริต๎วา,

Taṃ bhagavantaṃ anussaritvā,

one may recollect that Blessed One,

ปะสาทะสังเวคะปะฏิลาภายะ,

Pasādasaṃvegapaṭilābhāya,

and so come to confidence and to a sense of urgency.

มะยัง โข เอตะระหิ,

Mayaṃ kho etarahi,

We now, at this present time,

อิมัง วิสาขะปุณณะมีกาลัง,

Imaṃ visākhapuṇṇamīkālaṃ,

having reached this season of the Visākha full moon,

ตัสสะ ภะคะวะโต,

Tassa bhagavato,

which for that Blessed One

สะรีรัชฌาปะนะกาละสัมมะตัง ปัต๎วา อิมัง ฐานัง สัมปัตตา,

Sarīrajjhāpanakālasammataṃ patvā imaṃ ṭhānaṃ sampattā,

is held to be the time of the cremation of his body — and having come to this place,

อิเม ทัณฑะทีปะธูปะปุปผาทิสักกาเร คะเหต๎วา,

Ime daṇḍadīpadhūpapupphādisakkāre gahetvā,

and having taken up these offerings — candles, incense, flowers and the rest —

อัตตะโน กายัง สักการุปะธานัง กะริต๎วา,

Attano kāyaṃ sakkārupadhānaṃ karitvā,

and having made our own body the bearer of the offering,

ตัสสะ ภะคะวะโต,

Tassa bhagavato,

of that Blessed One

ยะถาภุจเจ คุเณ,

Yathābhucce guṇe,

the qualities as they truly are,

อะนุสสะรันตา,

Anussarantā,

recollecting them,

อิมัง ถูปัง ติกขัตตุง ปะทักขิณัง กะริสสามะ,

Imaṃ thūpaṃ tikkhattuṃ padakkhiṇaṃ karissāma,

shall walk three times around this stūpa, keeping it on the right,

อิมัง ยะถา คะหิเตหิ สักกาเรหิ,

Imaṃ yathā gahitehi sakkārehi,

and with these offerings as they have been taken up,

ปูชัง กุรุมานา,

Pūjaṃ kurumānā,

making our offering.

สาธุ โน ภันเต ภะคะวา,

Sādhu no bhante bhagavā,

It would be well, venerable Blessed One,

สุจิระปะรินิพพุโตปิ,

Suciraparinibbutopi,

who though long since finally gone to nibbāna,

ญาตัพเพหิ,

Ñātabbehi,

are still to be known

คุเณหิ อะตีตารัมมะณะตายะ ปัญญายะมาโน,

Guṇehi atītārammaṇatāya paññāyamāno,

by your qualities, and are discerned as an object belonging to the past,

อิเม อัมเหหิ คะหิเต,

Ime amhehi gahite,

if you would accept these offerings,

สักกาเร ปะฏิคคัณหาตุ,

Sakkāre paṭiggaṇhātu,

taken up by us —

อัมหากัง ทีฆะรัตตัง หิตายะ สุขายะ.

Amhākaṃ dīgharattaṃ hitāya sukhāya.

for our welfare and happiness for a long time to come.
