มัลเลหิ สัพพะคัมธานัง สัทเธหิ กะตะจิตะกา

Mallehi sabbagaṃdhānaṃ saddhehi katacitakā

A pyre of all fragrant woods was made by the faithful Mallas,

ปาฏิเหรัง ทัสสะยันติ สะยะเมวะ อะปัชชะลิ.

Pāṭiheraṃ dassayanti sayameva apajjali.

and showing a marvel it took flame of itself.

ตัสสันติมะเทหะภูตัง พัตติงสะวะระลักขะณัง

Tassantimadehabhūtaṃ battiṃsavaralakkhaṇaṃ

That which was his final body, bearing the thirty-two excellent marks,

ธาตุภูเตนะ เตเชนะ อัชฌายิตะ มะเหสิโน.

Dhātubhūtena tejena ajjhāyita mahesino.

was burnt by that elemental fire — the body of the Great Seer.

ตาทิโสวะ อะยันทานิ สัมปัตโต อะภิลักขิโต

Tādisova ayandāni sampatto abhilakkhito

Just such a day as that has now come round again, and is marked out,

มะยันทานิ สุนักขัตตัง อะภิมังคะละสัมมะตัง.

Mayandāni sunakkhattaṃ abhimaṅgalasammataṃ.

and we now have reached this auspicious conjunction, held to be most blessed.

สัมปัตตา อะนุกาเลนะ พุทธานุสสะระณาระหัง

Sampattā anukālena buddhānussaraṇārahaṃ

Having come to it in due time, worthy of the recollection of the Buddha,

สะรีรัชฌาปะนักกาละภูตัง ตัสสะ สะยัมภุโน

Sarīrajjhāpanakkālabhūtaṃ tassa sayambhuno

it being the time of the cremation of the body of that Self-Awakened One.

ตัง สัมมานุสสะระมานา สุจิรัง นิพพุตามะปิ

Taṃ sammānussaramānā suciraṃ nibbutāmapi

Rightly recollecting him, though he has long since been quenched,

ปะสันนาการัง กะโรนตา สักกาเร อะภิสัชชิยะ.

Pasannākāraṃ karontā sakkāre abhisajjiya.

we make this act of confidence, having prepared these offerings.

ทัณฑะทีเป ทีปะฆะเร มาลาวิกะติอาทะโย

Daṇḍadīpe dīpaghare mālāvikatiādayo

Candles on their stands, lamps in their housings, garlands of every kind and the rest,

ตัสเสวะ ปูชะนัตถายะ ยะถาสัตติ ยะถาพะลัง.

Tasseva pūjanatthāya yathāsatti yathābalaṃ.

for the honouring of him alone, so far as our means and our strength allow.

สะมาหะริต๎วา เอกัตถะ ฐะปะยิมหา ยะถาระหัง

Samāharitvā ekattha ṭhapayimhā yathārahaṃ

Having gathered them together in one place we have set them out as is fitting,

นะรานะรานัง สัพเพสัง สัทธัมเม สัมปะสีทะตัง.

Narānarānaṃ sabbesaṃ saddhamme sampasīdataṃ.

that all beings, human and other than human, may find confidence in the True Dhamma.

ธัมมัสสะวะนัง กะริสสามะ สัมพุทธะคุณะทีปะนัง

Dhammassavanaṃ karissāma sambuddhaguṇadīpanaṃ

We shall make a hearing of the Dhamma, one that shows forth the qualities of the Fully Awakened One,

พุทธะสุโพธิตาทีนัง ทีปะนัตถัง มะเหสิโน.

Buddhasubodhitādīnaṃ dīpanatthaṃ mahesino.

for the showing forth of the Great Seer's perfect awakening and all that follows from it.

ปะสันนาวะ มะยัง สัพเพ สัททะหามะ สุโพธิตัง

Pasannāva mayaṃ sabbe saddahāma subodhitaṃ

All of us, being confident, place our trust in his perfect awakening,

สักกัจจันตัง นะมัสสามะ สัมพุทธัง โคตะมะว๎หะยัง.

Sakkaccantaṃ namassāma sambuddhaṃ gotamavhayaṃ.

and with reverence we pay homage to the Fully Awakened One called Gotama.

อิเมหิ จะ สักกาเรหิ ฐะปิเตหิ ตะหิง ตะหิง

Imehi ca sakkārehi ṭhapitehi tahiṃ tahiṃ

And with these offerings, set out here and there,

ตัส๎มิง เจติยัฏฐาเน อะภิปูเชมะ สาธุกัง.

Tasmiṃ cetiyaṭṭhāne abhipūjema sādhukaṃ.

in that place of the shrine, we make our offering well.

สาธุ โน ภันเต ภะคะวา สุจิรัง ปะรินิพพุโต

Sādhu no bhante bhagavā suciraṃ parinibbuto

It would be well, venerable sir, that the Blessed One, long since gone to final nibbāna,

ธะรันโต โพธิยา สักขิภูตานันตะคุเณนะ โส.

Dharanto bodhiyā sakkhibhūtānantaguṇena so.

who yet endures by the boundless qualities that stand witness to his awakening,

ปะวัตติต๎วา นิรุทเธนะ อะนันตารัมมะเณนะปิ

Pavattitvā niruddhena anantārammaṇenapi

and who, having arisen and ceased, is yet an object without end,

ปัจฉิมาชะนะตาภูตะสัตตานุกัมปะมานะสาธุ

Pacchimājanatābhūtasattānukampamānasādhu

with a mind of sympathy for the beings who are the later generation, would kindly

อะนุกัมปัง อุปาทายะ ชานันโตวาภิวาทะนัง

Anukampaṃ upādāya jānantovābhivādanaṃ

taking up that sympathy, and as one who knows our salutation,

ปะฏิคคัณหาตุ สักกาเร สุสัชชิเต ตะถา ตะถา.

Paṭiggaṇhātu sakkāre susajjite tathā tathā.

accept these offerings, thus and thus well prepared.
