เอกังเสนาหัง อานันทะ กะระณียัง วะทามิ. กายะสุจะริตัง วะจีสุจะริตัง มะโนสุจะริตังติ. ยะมิทัง ภันเต ภะคะวะตา เอกังเสนะ กะระณียัง อักขาตัง, กายะสุจะริตัง วะจีสุจะริตัง มะโนสุจะริตัง. ตัส๎มิง กะระณีเย กะยิระมาเน, โก อานิสังโส ปาฏิกังโขติ. ยะมิทัง อานันทะ มะยา เอกังเสนะ กะระณียัง อักขาตัง, กายะสุจะริตัง วะจีสุจะริตัง มะโนสุจะริตัง, ตัส๎มิง กะระณีเย กะยิระมาเน, อะยัง อานิสังโส ปาฏิกังโข. อัตตาปิ อัตตานัง นะ อุปะวะทะติ, อะนุวิจจะ วิญญู ปะสังสันติ, กัล๎ยาโณ กิตติสัทโท อัพภุคคัจฉะติ, อะสัมมุฬโห กาลัง กะโรติ, กายัสสะ เภทา ปะรัมมะระณา สุคะติง สัคคัง โลกัง อุปะปัชชะติ, ยะมิทัง อานันทะ มะยา เอกังเสนะ กะระณียัง อักขาตัง, กายะสุจะริตัง วะจีสุจะริตัง มะโนสุจะริตัง. ตัส๎มิง กะระณีเย กะยิระมาเน, อะยัง อานิสังโส ปาฏิกังโขติ. อิทะมะโวจะ ภะคะวา, อัตตะมะโน อายัส๎มา อานันโท ภะคะวะโต ภาสิตัง อะภินันทีติ.

Ekaṃsenāhaṃ ānanda karaṇīyaṃ vadāmi. kāyasucaritaṃ vacīsucaritaṃ manosucaritaṃti. Yamidaṃ bhante bhagavatā ekaṃsena karaṇīyaṃ akkhātaṃ, kāyasucaritaṃ vacīsucaritaṃ manosucaritaṃ. Tasmiṃ karaṇīye kayiramāne, ko ānisaṃso pāṭikaṅkhoti. Yamidaṃ ānanda mayā ekaṃsena karaṇīyaṃ akkhātaṃ, kāyasucaritaṃ vacīsucaritaṃ manosucaritaṃ, tasmiṃ karaṇīye kayiramāne, ayaṃ ānisaṃso pāṭikaṅkho. Attāpi attānaṃ na upavadati, anuvicca viññū pasaṃsanti, kalyāṇo kittisaddo abbhuggacchati, asammūḷho kālaṃ karoti, kāyassa bhedā parammaraṇā sugatiṃ saggaṃ lokaṃ upapajjati, yamidaṃ ānanda mayā ekaṃsena karaṇīyaṃ akkhātaṃ, kāyasucaritaṃ vacīsucaritaṃ manosucaritaṃ. Tasmiṃ karaṇīye kayiramāne, ayaṃ ānisaṃso pāṭikaṅkhoti. Idamavoca bhagavā, attamano āyasmā ānando bhagavato bhāsitaṃ abhinandīti.

'Ānanda, I say categorically that good conduct of body, speech and mind should be done.' 'Venerable sir, of that good conduct which the Blessed One has categorically declared should be done — what benefit is to be expected when it is done?' 'Ānanda, of that good conduct which I have categorically declared should be done, this benefit is to be expected: one does not blame oneself; on considering, the wise praise one; a good report spreads abroad; one dies unconfused; and on the breaking up of the body, after death, one reappears in a good destination, a heavenly world.' This is what the Blessed One said. Gladdened, the venerable Ānanda delighted in the Blessed One's words.

ยานิ ยาน๎ยัคคะภูตานิ สัมมะตานิ ตะถา ตะถา

Yāni yānyaggabhūtāni sammatāni tathā tathā

Whatever things are reckoned foremost, in this way and that,

เตสัง เตสัง หิ สัพเพสัง อัคคัญญุตตะมะโกฏิยา.

Tesaṃ tesaṃ hi sabbesaṃ aggaññuttamakoṭiyā.

of all those, by the highest and foremost measure —

อัคคะโต ตัปปะสันนานัง สัตตานัง อัคคะตาวะหัง

Aggato tappasannānaṃ sattānaṃ aggatāvahaṃ

for beings who have faith in the foremost as foremost, it brings foremost state:

พุทโธ ธัมโม จะ สังโฆ จะ อิจเจตัง ระตะนัตตะยัง.

Buddho dhammo ca saṅgho ca iccetaṃ ratanattayaṃ.

the Buddha, the Dhamma and the Sangha — such is the Triple Gem.

อิมะมัตถัง ปะเวเทนตา สาธูนัง อัคคะกามินัง

Imamatthaṃ pavedentā sādhūnaṃ aggakāminaṃ

Making this matter known to good people who long for the foremost,

อัคเคเยวะ ปะสาทัตถัง ตัง สุตตันตัง ภะณามะ เส.

Aggeyeva pasādatthaṃ taṃ suttantaṃ bhaṇāma se.

so that faith may rest on the foremost alone — let us recite that discourse.

ยาวะตา ภิกขะเว สัตตา อะปะทา วา ท๎วิปะทา วา จะตุปปะทา วา พะหุปปะทา วา, รูปิโน วา อะรูปิโน วา, สัญญิโน วา อะสัญญิโน วา เนวะสัญญีนาสัญญิโน วา, ตะถาคะโต เตสัง อัคคะมักขายะติ อะระหัง สัมมาสัมพุทโธ. เย ภิกขะเว พุทเธ ปะสันนา อัคเค เต ปะสันนา, อัคเค โข ปะนะ ปะสันนานัง อัคโค วิปาโก โหติ.

Yāvatā bhikkhave sattā apadā vā dvipadā vā catuppadā vā bahuppadā vā, rūpino vā arūpino vā, saññino vā asaññino vā nevasaññīnāsaññino vā, tathāgato tesaṃ aggamakkhāyati arahaṃ sammāsambuddho. Ye bhikkhave buddhe pasannā agge te pasannā, agge kho pana pasannānaṃ aggo vipāko hoti.

Monks, as far as there are beings — footless or two-footed or four-footed or many-footed, with form or formless, percipient or non-percipient or neither-percipient-nor-non-percipient — the Tathāgata, the Worthy One, the Perfectly Self-Awakened, is reckoned foremost among them. Those, monks, who have faith in the Buddha have faith in the foremost; and for those with faith in the foremost, the result is foremost.
