เอวัมเม สุตัง เอกัง สะมะยัง ภะคะวา ราชะคะเห วิหะระติ คิชฌะกูเฏ ปัพพะเต. ตัตระ โข ภะคะวา ภิกขู อามันเตสิ. สัตตะ โว ภิกขะเว อะปะริหานิเย ธัมเม เทเสสสามิ, ตัง สุณาถะ สาธุกัง มะนะสิกะโรถะ,ภาสิสสามีติ. เอวัมภันเตติ โข เต ภิกขู ภะคะวะโต ปัจจัสโสสุง. ภะคะวา เอตะทะโวจะ. กะตะเม จะ ภิกขะเว สัตตะ อะปะริหานิยา ธัมมา.

Evamme sutaṃ ekaṃ samayaṃ bhagavā rājagahe viharati gijjhakūṭe pabbate. Tatra kho bhagavā bhikkhū āmantesi. Satta vo bhikkhave aparihāniye dhamme desessāmi, taṃ suṇātha sādhukaṃ manasikarotha,bhāsissāmīti. Evambhanteti kho te bhikkhū bhagavato paccassosuṃ. Bhagavā etadavoca. Katame ca bhikkhave satta aparihāniyā dhammā.

Thus have I heard. At one time the Blessed One was staying at Rajagaha, on the Vulture's Peak. There he addressed the monks: 'Monks, I shall teach you seven conditions that lead to no decline. Listen and attend closely; I shall speak.' 'Yes, venerable sir,' those monks replied. The Blessed One said this: And what, monks, are the seven conditions that lead to no decline?

ยาวะกีวัญจะ ภิกขะเว ภิกขู อะภิณหะสันนิปาตา ภะวิสสันติ สันนิปาตะพะหุลา. วุฑฒิเยวะ ภิกขะเว ภิกขูนัง ปาฏิกังขา, โน ปะริหานิ.

Yāvakīvañca bhikkhave bhikkhū abhiṇhasannipātā bhavissanti sannipātabahulā. Vuḍḍhiyeva bhikkhave bhikkhūnaṃ pāṭikaṅkhā, no parihāni.

So long, monks, as the monks meet often and meet in large numbers, growth is to be expected for the monks, not decline.

ยาวะกีวัญจะ ภิกขะเว ภิกขู สะมัคคา สันนิปะติสสันติ สะมัคคา วุฏฐะหิสสันติ สะมัคคา สังฆะกะระณียานิ กะริสสันติ. วุฑฒิเยวะ ภิกขะเว ภิกขูนัง ปาฏิกังขา, โน ปะริหานิ.

Yāvakīvañca bhikkhave bhikkhū samaggā sannipatissanti samaggā vuṭṭhahissanti samaggā saṅghakaraṇīyāni karissanti. Vuḍḍhiyeva bhikkhave bhikkhūnaṃ pāṭikaṅkhā, no parihāni.

So long as they assemble in concord, rise in concord, and do the Sangha's business in concord, growth is to be expected for the monks, not decline.

ยาวะกีวัญจะ ภิกขะเว ภิกขู อะปัญญัตตัง นะ ปัญญะเปสสันติ ปัญญัตตัง นะ สะมุจฉินทิสสันติ, ยะถาปัญญัตเตสุ สิกขาปะเทสุ สะมาทายะ วัตติสสันติ. วุฑฒิเยวะ ภิกขะเว ภิกขูนัง ปาฏิกังขา, โน ปะริหานิ.

Yāvakīvañca bhikkhave bhikkhū apaññattaṃ na paññapessanti paññattaṃ na samucchindissanti, yathāpaññattesu sikkhāpadesu samādāya vattissanti. Vuḍḍhiyeva bhikkhave bhikkhūnaṃ pāṭikaṅkhā, no parihāni.

So long as they neither lay down what has not been laid down nor abolish what has been, but undertake and train in the training rules as they stand, growth is to be expected for the monks, not decline.

ยาวะกีวัญจะ ภิกขะเว ภิกขู เย เต ภิกขู เถรา รัตตัญญู จิระปัพพะชิตา สังฆะปิตะโร สังฆะปะริณายะกา, เต สักกะริสสันติ คะรุกะริสสันติ มาเนสสันติ ปูเชสสันติ เตสัญจะ โสตัพพัง มัญญิสสันติ. วุฑฒิเยวะ ภิกขะเว ภิกขูนัง ปาฏิกังขา, โน ปะริหานิ.

Yāvakīvañca bhikkhave bhikkhū ye te bhikkhū therā rattaññū cirapabbajitā saṅghapitaro saṅghapariṇāyakā, te sakkarissanti garukarissanti mānessanti pūjessanti tesañca sotabbaṃ maññissanti. Vuḍḍhiyeva bhikkhave bhikkhūnaṃ pāṭikaṅkhā, no parihāni.

So long as they honour, respect, revere and venerate those monks who are elders, of long standing, long gone forth, fathers and leaders of the Sangha, and think their word worth hearing, growth is to be expected for the monks, not decline.

ยาวะกีวัญจะ ภิกขะเว ภิกขู อุปปันนายะ ตัณหายะ โปโนพภะวิกายะ โน วะสัง คัจฉิสสันติ. วุฑฒิเยวะ ภิกขะเว ภิกขูนัง ปาฏิกังขา, โน ปะริหานิ.

Yāvakīvañca bhikkhave bhikkhū uppannāya taṇhāya ponobbhavikāya no vasaṃ gacchissanti. Vuḍḍhiyeva bhikkhave bhikkhūnaṃ pāṭikaṅkhā, no parihāni.

So long as they do not fall under the sway of craving that has arisen and leads to renewed being, growth is to be expected for the monks, not decline.

ยาวะกีวัญจะ ภิกขะเว ภิกขู อารัญญะเกสุ เสนาสะเนสุ สาเปกขา ภะวิสสันติ. วุฑฒิเยวะ ภิกขะเว ภิกขูนัง ปาฏิกังขา, โน ปะริหานิ.

Yāvakīvañca bhikkhave bhikkhū āraññakesu senāsanesu sāpekkhā bhavissanti. Vuḍḍhiyeva bhikkhave bhikkhūnaṃ pāṭikaṅkhā, no parihāni.

So long as they care for lodgings in the forest, growth is to be expected for the monks, not decline.

ยาวะกีวัญจะ ภิกขะเว ภิกขู ปัจจัตตัญเญวะ สะติง อุปัฏฐะเปสสันติ, กินติ อะนาคะตา จะ เปสะลา สะพ๎รัห๎มะจารี อาคัจเฉยยุง, อาคะตา จะ เปสะลา สะพ๎รัห๎มะจารี ผาสุง วิหะเรยยุนติ. วุฑฒิเยวะ ภิกขะเว ภิกขูนัง ปาฏิกังขา, โน ปะริหานิ.

Yāvakīvañca bhikkhave bhikkhū paccattaññeva satiṃ upaṭṭhapessanti, kinti anāgatā ca pesalā sabrahmacārī āgaccheyyuṃ, āgatā ca pesalā sabrahmacārī phāsuṃ vihareyyunti. Vuḍḍhiyeva bhikkhave bhikkhūnaṃ pāṭikaṅkhā, no parihāni.

So long as they each establish mindfulness, thinking 'may well-behaved companions in the holy life who have not come, come; and may those who have come dwell at ease', growth is to be expected for the monks, not decline.
