Puna caparaṃ bhikkhave bhikkhu seyyathāpi passeyya sarīraṃ sīvathikāya chaḍḍitaṃ, aṭṭhikāni apagatanahārusambandhāni, disāvidisā vikkhittāni, aññena hatthaṭṭhikaṃ, aññena pādaṭṭhikaṃ, aññena jaṅghaṭṭhikaṃ, aññena ūruṭṭhikaṃ, aññena kaṭiṭṭhikaṃ, aññena piṭṭhikaṇṭakaṭṭhikaṃ, aññena phāsukaṭṭhikaṃ, aññena uraṭṭhikaṃ, aññena bāhuṭṭhikaṃ, aññena aṃsaṭṭhikaṃ, aññena gīvaṭṭhikaṃ, aññena hanuṭṭhikaṃ, aññena dantaṭṭhikaṃ, aññena sīsakaṭāhaṃ. So imameva kāyaṃ upasaṃharati. Ayampi kho kāyo evaṃdhammo evaṃbhāvī evaṃ anatītoti. Iti ajjhattaṃ vā kāye kāyānupassī viharati, bahiddhā vā kāye kāyānupassī viharati, ajjhattabahiddhā vā kāye kāyānupassī viharati, samudayadhammānupassī vā kāyasmiṃ viharati, vayadhammānupassī vā kāyasmiṃ viharati, samudayavayadhammānupassī vā kāyasmiṃ viharati, atthi kāyoti vā panassa sati paccupaṭṭhitā hoti, yāvadeva ñāṇamattāya, patissatimattāya anissito ca viharati, na ca kiñci loke upādiyati, evampi bhikkhave bhikkhu kāye kāyānupassī viharati.
And again, monks, a monk, as though he were to see a body cast away in a charnel ground — the bones no longer held by sinews, scattered in all directions and between them: a hand bone here, a foot bone there, a shin bone, a thigh bone, a hip bone, a bone of the spine, a rib, a breast bone, an arm bone, a shoulder bone, a neck bone, a jaw bone, a tooth, the skull — compares this very body with it: 'This body too is of such a nature, will come to be like that, and is not exempt from it.' Thus he dwells contemplating the body in the body internally, or externally, or both internally and externally, contemplating the nature of arising in the body, or the nature of passing away, or the nature of both arising and passing away, and mindfulness that 'there is a body' is established in him just so far as is needed for knowledge and for remembrance. Independent he dwells, clinging to nothing in the world. Thus too, monks, does a monk dwell contemplating the body in the body.

Puna caparaṃ bhikkhave bhikkhu seyyathāpi passeyya sarīraṃ sīvathikāya chaḍḍitaṃ, aṭṭhikāni setāni saṅkhavaṇṇupanibhāni. So imameva kāyaṃ upasaṃharati. Ayampi kho kāyo evaṃdhammo evaṃbhāvī evaṃ anatītoti. Iti ajjhattaṃ vā kāye kāyānupassī viharati, bahiddhā vā kāye kāyānupassī viharati, ajjhattabahiddhā vā kāye kāyānupassī viharati. And again, monks, a monk, as though he were to see a body cast away in a charnel ground — the bones gone white, the colour of shells — compares this very body with it: 'This body too is of such a nature, will come to be like that, and is not exempt from it.' Thus he dwells contemplating the body in the body internally, or externally, or both internally and externally. He dwells contemplating the nature of arising in the body, or the nature of passing away, or the nature of both arising and passing away. Or else mindfulness that 'there is a body' is established in him just so far as is needed for knowledge and for remembrance. And he dwells independent, clinging to nothing in the world. Thus too, monks, does a monk dwell contemplating the body in the body.
