อะนุตตะรัง อะภิสัมโพธิง สัมพุชฌิต๎วา ตะถาคะโต,

Anuttaraṃ abhisambodhiṃ sambujjhitvā tathāgato,

The Tathāgata, having fully awakened to the unsurpassed perfect enlightenment,

ปะฐะมัง ยัง อะเทเสสิ ธัมมะจักกัง อะนุตตะรัง

Paṭhamaṃ yaṃ adesesi dhammacakkaṃ anuttaraṃ

first taught that unsurpassed Wheel of Dhamma,

สัมมะเทวะ ปะวัตเตนโต โลเก อัปปะฏิวัตติยัง,

Sammadeva pavattento loke appaṭivattiyaṃ,

setting it rolling rightly, unstoppable in the world,

ยัตถากขาตา อุโภ อันตา ปะฏิปัตติ จะ มัชฌิมา,

Yatthākkhātā ubho antā paṭipatti ca majjhimā,

wherein both extremes are declared, and the middle way of practice,

จะตูส๎วาริยะสัจเจสุ วิสุทธัง ญาณะทัสสะนัง,

Catūsvāriyasaccesu visuddhaṃ ñāṇadassanaṃ,

and the purified knowledge and vision of the four noble truths,

เทสิตัง ธัมมะราเชนะ สัมมาสัมโพธิกิตตะนัง,

Desitaṃ dhammarājena sammāsambodhikittanaṃ,

taught by the King of Dhamma, proclaiming his perfect enlightenment,

นาเมนะ วิสสุตัง สุตตัง ธัมมะจักกัปปะวัตตะนัง,

Nāmena vissutaṃ suttaṃ dhammacakkappavattanaṃ,

the discourse renowned by the name Dhammacakkappavattana —

เวยยากะระณะปาเฐนะ สังคีตันตัมภะณามะ เส.

Veyyākaraṇapāṭhena saṅgītantambhaṇāma se.

let us now recite it, as it was rehearsed, in the manner of a prose exposition.

เอวัมเม สุตัง. เอกัง สะมะยัง ภะคะวา พาราณะสิยัง วิหะระติ อิสิปะตะเน มิคะทาเย. ตัต๎ระ โข ภะคะวา ปัญจะวัคคิเย ภิกขู อามันเตสิ.

Evamme sutaṃ. Ekaṃ samayaṃ bhagavā bārāṇasiyaṃ viharati isipatane migadāye. Tatra kho bhagavā pañcavaggiye bhikkhū āmantesi.

Thus have I heard. At one time the Blessed One was dwelling at Bārāṇasī, in the deer park at Isipatana. There the Blessed One addressed the group of five monks.

เท๎วเม ภิกขะเว อันตา ปัพพะชิเตนะ นะ เสวิตัพพา. โย จายัง กาเมสุ กามะสุขัลลิกานุโยโค หีโน คัมโม โปถุชชะนิโก อะนะริโย อะนัตถะสัญ๎หิโต. โย จายัง อัตตะกิละมะถานุโยโค ทุกโข อะนะริโย อะนัตถะสัญหิโต.

Dveme bhikkhave antā pabbajitena na sevitabbā. Yo cāyaṃ kāmesu kāmasukhallikānuyogo hīno gammo pothujjaniko anariyo anatthasañhito. Yo cāyaṃ attakilamathānuyogo dukkho anariyo anatthasañhito.

There are these two extremes, monks, that should not be followed by one who has gone forth. There is this pursuit of sensual happiness in sensual pleasures, which is low, coarse, the way of ordinary people, ignoble, and brings no good. And there is this pursuit of self-mortification, which is painful, ignoble, and brings no good.

เอเต เต ภิกขะเว อุโภ อันเต อะนุปะคัมมะ, มัชฌิมา ปะฏิปะทา ตะถาคะเตนะ อะภิสัมพุทธา, จักขุกะระณี ญาณะกะระณี, อุปะสะมายะ อะภิญญายะ สัมโพธายะ นิพพานายะ สังวัตตะติ.

Ete te bhikkhave ubho ante anupagamma, majjhimā paṭipadā tathāgatena abhisambuddhā, cakkhukaraṇī ñāṇakaraṇī, upasamāya abhiññāya sambodhāya nibbānāya saṃvattati.

Avoiding both these extremes, monks, the middle way discovered by the Tathāgata gives rise to vision and to knowledge, and leads to peace, to direct knowledge, to enlightenment, to Nibbāna.
