สิโลกะมะนุกัสสามิ ยัตถะ ภุมมา ตะทัสสิตา
Silokamanukassāmi yattha bhummā tadassitā
“I shall recite a verse in praise, telling where the earth-devas dwell:
เย สิตา คิริคัพภะรัง ปะหิตัตตา สะมาหิตา.
Ye sitā girigabbharaṃ pahitattā samāhitā.
those who cling to the mountain cleft, resolute and composed.
ปุถู สีหาวะ สัลลีนา โลมะหังสาภิสัมภุโน
Puthū sīhāva sallīnā lomahaṃsābhisambhuno
Many, withdrawn like lions, whose hair stands on end in awe,
โอทาตะมะนะสา สุทธา วิปปะสันนะมะนาวิลา.
Odātamanasā suddhā vippasannamanāvilā.
bright of mind, pure, serene and untroubled.”
ภิยโย ปัญจะสะเต ญัต์วา วะเน กาปิละวัตถะเว
Bhiyyo pañcasate ñatvā vane kāpilavatthave
Knowing that more than five hundred were in the Kapilavatthu wood,
ตะโต อามันตะยิ สัตถา สาวะเก สาสะเน ระเต.
Tato āmantayi satthā sāvake sāsane rate.
the Teacher then addressed the disciples who delight in the teaching:
เทวะกายา อะภิกกันตา เต วิชานาถะ ภิกขะโว
Devakāyā abhikkantā te vijānātha bhikkhavo
“The hosts of devas have come. Know them, bhikkhus.”
เต จะ อาตัปปะมะกะรุง สุต์วา พุทธัสสะ สาสะนัง.
Te ca ātappamakaruṃ sutvā buddhassa sāsanaṃ.
And they made an ardent effort, having heard the Buddha's instruction.
เตสัมปาตุระเห ญาณัง อะมะนุสสานะ ทัสสะนัง
Tesampāturahe ñāṇaṃ amanussāna dassanaṃ
Knowledge appeared to them, the seeing of non-human beings.
อัปเปเก สะตะมัททักขุง สะหัสสัง อะถะ สัตตะริง.
Appeke satamaddakkhuṃ sahassaṃ atha sattariṃ.
Some saw a hundred, some a thousand, and some seventy thousand.
สะตัง เอเก สะหัสสานัง อะมะนุสสานะมัททะสุง
Sataṃ eke sahassānaṃ amanussānamaddasuṃ
Some saw a hundred thousand non-human beings,
อัปเปเกนันตะมัททักขุง ทิสา สัพพา ผุฏา อะหุง.
Appekenantamaddakkhuṃ disā sabbā phuṭā ahuṃ.
and some saw them without end: every direction was filled.
ตัญจะ สัพพัง อะภิญญายะ วะวักขิต์วานะ จักขุมา
Tañca sabbaṃ abhiññāya vavakkhitvāna cakkhumā
Having directly known all of that, having surveyed it, the One with vision
ตะโต อามันตะยิ สัตถา สาวะเก สาสะเน ระเต.
Tato āmantayi satthā sāvake sāsane rate.
then addressed, as Teacher, the disciples who delight in the teaching:
เทวะกายา อะภิกกันตา เต วิชานาถะ ภิกขะโว
Devakāyā abhikkantā te vijānātha bhikkhavo
“The hosts of devas have come. Know them, bhikkhus —
เย โวหัง กิตตะยิสสามิ คิราหิ อะนุปุพพะโส.
Ye vohaṃ kittayissāmi girāhi anupubbaso.
those whom I shall proclaim to you in words, one after another.
สัตตะสะหัสสาวะ ยักขา ภุมมา กาปิละวัตถะวา
Sattasahassāva yakkhā bhummā kāpilavatthavā
Seven thousand yakkhas, earth-dwellers of Kapilavatthu,
อิทธิมันโต ชุติมันโต วัณณะวันโต ยะสัสสิโน
Iddhimanto jutimanto vaṇṇavanto yasassino
possessed of power, of radiance, of beauty and of renown,
โมทะมานา อะภิกกามุง ภิกขูนัง สะมิติง วะนัง.
Modamānā abhikkāmuṃ bhikkhūnaṃ samitiṃ vanaṃ.
came rejoicing to the wood, to the assembly of bhikkhus.
ฉะสะหัสสา เหมะวะตา ยักขา นานัตตะวัณณิโน
Chasahassā hemavatā yakkhā nānattavaṇṇino
Six thousand yakkhas from the Himavā, of varied hues,
อิทธิมันโต ชุติมันโต วัณณะวันโต ยะสัสสิโน
Iddhimanto jutimanto vaṇṇavanto yasassino
possessed of power, of radiance, of beauty and of renown,
โมทะมานา อะภิกกามุง ภิกขูนัง สะมิติง วะนัง.
Modamānā abhikkāmuṃ bhikkhūnaṃ samitiṃ vanaṃ.
came rejoicing to the wood, to the assembly of bhikkhus.
สาตาคิรา ติสะหัสสา ยักขา นานัตตะวัณณิโน
Sātāgirā tisahassā yakkhā nānattavaṇṇino
Three thousand Sātāgira yakkhas, of varied hues,
อิทธิมันโต ชุติมันโต วัณณะวันโต ยะสัสสิโน
Iddhimanto jutimanto vaṇṇavanto yasassino
possessed of power, of radiance, of beauty and of renown,
