อิทธิมันโต ชุติมันโต วัณณะวันโต ยะสัสสิโน

Iddhimanto jutimanto vaṇṇavanto yasassino

possessed of power, of radiance, of beauty and of renown,

โมทะมานา อะภิกกามุง ภิกขูนัง สะมิติง วะนัง.

Modamānā abhikkāmuṃ bhikkhūnaṃ samitiṃ vanaṃ.

came rejoicing to the wood, to the assembly of bhikkhus.

ปุริมะทิสัง ธะตะรัฏโฐ ทักขิเณนะ วิรุพหะโก

Purimadisaṃ dhataraṭṭho dakkhiṇena virubhako

Dhataraṭṭha to the eastern quarter, Viruḷhaka to the south,

ปัจฉิเมนะ วิรูปักโข กุเวโร อุตตะรัง ทิสัง.

Pacchimena virūpakkho kuvero uttaraṃ disaṃ.

Virūpakkha to the west, and Kuvera to the northern quarter.

จัตตาโร เต มะหาราชา สะมันตา จะตุโร ทิสา

Cattāro te mahārājā samantā caturo disā

These four great kings, on every side, in the four directions,

ทัททัลละมานา อัฏฐังสุ วะเน กาปิละวัตถะเว.

Daddallamānā aṭṭhaṃsu vane kāpilavatthave.

stood there blazing, in the wood at Kapilavatthu.

เตสัง มายาวิโน ทาสา อาคู วัญจะนิกา สะฐา

Tesaṃ māyāvino dāsā āgū vañcanikā saṭhā

Their conjuring servants came too, deceivers and tricksters:

มายา กุเฏณฑุ เวเฏณฑุ วิฏู จะ วิฏุโต สะหะ.

Māyā kuṭeṇḍu veṭeṇḍu viṭū ca viṭuto saha.

Māyā, Kuṭeṇḍu and Veṭeṇḍu, Viṭū and Viṭuta with them.

จันทะโน กามะเสฏโฐ จะ กินนุฆัณฑุ นิฆัณฑุ จะ

Candano kāmaseṭṭho ca kinnughaṇḍu nighaṇḍu ca

Candana and Kāmaseṭṭha, Kinnughaṇḍu and Nighaṇḍu,

ปะนาโท โอปะมัญโญ จะ เทวะสูโต จะ มาตะลิ.

Panādo opamañño ca devasūto ca mātali.

Panāda and Opamañña, and Mātali the charioteer of the devas.

จิตตะเสโน จะ คันธัพโพ นะโพราชา ชะโนสะโภ

Cittaseno ca gandhabbo nabo rājā janosabho

Cittasena the gandhabba, Naḷa the king, and Janosabha,

อาคู ปัญจะสิโข เจวะ ติมพะรู สุริยะวัจฉะสา.

Āgū pañcasikho ceva timbarū suriyavacchasā.

Pañcasikha came, and Timbarū, and Suriyavacchasā.

เอเต จัญเญ จะ ราชาโน คันธัพพา สะหะ ราชุภิ

Ete caññe ca rājāno gandhabbā saha rājubhi

These and other kings, gandhabbas together with their rulers,

โมทะมานา อะภิกกามุง ภิกขูนัง สะมิตัง วะนัง.

Modamānā abhikkāmuṃ bhikkhūnaṃ samitaṃ vanaṃ.

came rejoicing to the wood, to the assembly of bhikkhus.

อะถาคู นาภะสา นาคา เวสาลา สะหะตัจฉะกา

Athāgū nābhasā nāgā vesālā sahatacchakā

Then came the nāgas of Nābhasa, and those of Vesālī with the Tacchakas,

กัมพะลัสสะตะรา อาคู ปายาคา สะหะ ญาติภิ.

Kambalassatarā āgū pāyāgā saha ñātibhi.

the Kambalas and Assataras came, and those of Payāga with their kin.

ยามูนา ธะตะรัฏฐา จะ อาคู นาคา ยะสัสสิโน

Yāmūnā dhataraṭṭhā ca āgū nāgā yasassino

The nāgas of the Yamunā and of Dhataraṭṭha's line came too, nāgas of renown,

เอราวัณโณ มะหานาโค โสปาคะ สะมิติง วะนัง.

Erāvaṇṇo mahānāgo sopāga samitiṃ vanaṃ.

and Erāvaṇa the great nāga — he too came to the wood, to the assembly.

เย นาคะราเช สะหะสา หะรันติ

Ye nāgarāje sahasā haranti

Those who carry off the nāga kings by force,

ทิพพา ทิชา ปักขิ วิสุทธะจักขู

Dibbā dijā pakkhi visuddhacakkhū

divine twice-born winged ones, of pure sight —

เวหายะสา เต วะนะมัชฌะปัตตา

Vehāyasā te vanamajjhapattā

through the air they came, and reached the middle of the wood:

จิต์รา สุปัณณา อิติ เตสะนามัง.

Citrā supaṇṇā iti tesanāmaṃ.

Citrā and Supaṇṇā, these are their names.

อะภะยันตะทา นาคะราชานะมาสิ

Abhayantadā nāgarājānamāsi

But the nāga kings were made fearless then,

สุปัณณะโต เขมะมะกาสิ พุทโธ

Supaṇṇato khemamakāsi buddho

for the Buddha made them safe from the supaṇṇas;

สัญหาหิ วาจาหิ อุปะว์หะยันตา

Sañhāhi vācāhi upavhayantā

and calling upon one another with gentle words,

นาคา สุปัณณา สะระณะมะกังสุ พุทธัง.

Nāgā supaṇṇā saraṇamakaṃsu buddhaṃ.

nāgas and supaṇṇas took the Buddha as their refuge.
