อัชเฌสิโต โส ภะคะวา อะนุตตะโร

Ajjhesito so bhagavā anuttaro

the Blessed One, unsurpassed, was entreated;

สัตเตสุ การุญญะตะโมกะมันตะโต

Sattesu kāruññatamokamantato

and out of compassion, entering into pity for beings,

โวโลกะยี โลกะมิมัง สุจักขุนา.

Volokayī lokamimaṃ sucakkhunā.

he looked upon this world with the eye of wisdom.

อะทักขิ เวเนยยะชะเน อะนัปปะเก

Adakkhi veneyyajane anappake

He saw beings fit to be trained, and not a few,

สันเตวะ โลกุตตะระโพธะนาระเห

Santeva lokuttarabodhanārahe

truly present, worthy of the supramundane awakening,

วิญญาปะเย อัปปะระชักขะชาติเก

Viññāpaye apparajakkhajātike

those of little dust who could be made to understand;

อะเถวะมัชเฌสะนามาธิวาสะยิ.

Athevamajjhesanāmādhivāsayi.

and so he consented to the request.

อะปารุตา เต อะมะตัสสะ ท๎วารา

Apārutā te amatassa dvārā

Opened for them are the doors to the deathless:

เย โสตะวันโต ปะมุญจันตุ สัทธัง

Ye sotavanto pamuñcantu saddhaṃ

let those who have ears to hear release their faith.

วิหิงสะสัญญี ปะคุณัง นะ ภาสิง

Vihiṃsasaññī paguṇaṃ na bhāsiṃ

Perceiving only trouble, I did not speak the practised Dhamma,

ธัมมัง ปะณีตัง มะนุเชสุ พ๎รัห๎เม.

Dhammaṃ paṇītaṃ manujesu brahme.

the excellent Dhamma, among human beings, O Brahmā.

ตะโต มะหาการุณิโก มะเหสี

Tato mahākāruṇiko mahesī

Thereafter the great seer, of great compassion,

สัมพุทธะกิจจัง ภะคะวา อะกาสิ

Sambuddhakiccaṃ bhagavā akāsi

the Blessed One, did the work of a Fully Awakened One:

สัทธัมมะจักกัสสะ ปะวัตตะสาทิง

Saddhammacakkassa pavattasādiṃ

beginning with the turning of the wheel of the true Dhamma,

ฐะเปสิ โส สาสะนะธัมมะเสฏฐัง.

Ṭhapesi so sāsanadhammaseṭṭhaṃ.

he established the supreme Dhamma of the dispensation.

ทัมเม ทะมัง โมจะยิ ภัพพะสัตเต

Damme damaṃ mocayi bhabbasatte

Training those to be trained, he freed the beings capable of it

สังสาระทุกขา พะหุเกปิ เตนะ

Saṃsāradukkhā bahukepi tena

from the suffering of saṃsāra, and many by that means;

สัทธัมมะทีปัง ติวิธัมปิ โลเก

Saddhammadīpaṃ tividhampi loke

and the lamp of the true Dhamma, threefold, in the world

หิตายะ สัมมา วะ ปะวัตตะยิตถะ.

Hitāya sammā va pavattayittha.

he set rightly turning, for the welfare of all.

จาตุททะสี ปัณณะระสี ยา จะ ปักขัสสะ อัฏฐะมี

Cātuddasī paṇṇarasī yā ca pakkhassa aṭṭhamī

The fourteenth, the fifteenth, and the eighth of the fortnight —

กาลา พุทเธนะ ปัญญัตตา สัทธัมมัสสะวะนัสสิเม.

Kālā buddhena paññattā saddhammassavanassime.

these are the times appointed by the Buddha for hearing the true Dhamma.

ปัณณะระสี อะยันทานิ สัมปัตตา อะภิลักขิตา

Paṇṇarasī ayandāni sampattā abhilakkhitā

Now this fifteenth day has come, marked out and auspicious,

เตนายัง ปะริสา ธัมมัง โสตุง อิธะ สะมาคะตา.

Tenāyaṃ parisā dhammaṃ sotuṃ idha samāgatā.

and so this assembly has gathered here to hear the Dhamma.

สาธุ อัยโย ภิกขุสังโฆ กะโรตุ ธัมมะเทสะนัง

Sādhu ayyo bhikkhusaṅgho karotu dhammadesanaṃ

It would be good if the venerable Bhikkhu Saṅgha would give a Dhamma teaching,

อะยัญจะ ปะริสา สัพพา อัฏฐิกัต๎วา สุณาตุ ตัง.

Ayañca parisā sabbā aṭṭhikatvā suṇātu taṃ.

and may this whole assembly attend closely and listen to it.
