ทานัญจะ เปยยะวัชชัญจะ อัตถะจะริยา จะ ยา อิธะ

dānañca peyyavajjañca atthacariyā ca yā idha

Giving, and kindly speech, and whatever conduct is for others' good,

สะมานัตตะตา จะ ธัมเมสุ ตัตถะ ตัตถะ ยะถาระหัง.

samānattatā ca dhammesu tattha tattha yathārahaṃ.

and treating all alike in these things, each as is fitting.

เอเต โข สังคะหา โลเก ระถัสสาณีวะ ยายะโต

ete kho saṅgahā loke rathassāṇīva yāyato

These are the grounds of kindness in the world, like the linchpin of a moving chariot.

เอเต จะ สังคะหา นาสสุ นะ มาตา ปุตตะการะณา

ete ca saṅgahā nāssu na mātā puttakāraṇā

And were these grounds of kindness not to be, no mother, for her child's sake,

ละเภถะ มานัง ปูชัง วา ปิตา วา ปุตตะการะณา

labhetha mānaṃ pūjaṃ vā pitā vā puttakāraṇā

would gain honour or respect, nor a father for his child's sake.

ยัส๎มา จะ สังคะหา เอเต สะมะเวกขันติ ปัณฑิตา

yasmā ca saṅgahā ete samavekkhanti paṇḍitā

Because the wise consider these grounds of kindness well,

ตัส๎มา มะหัตตัง ปัปโปนติ ปาสังสา จะ ภะวันติ เตติ.

tasmā mahattaṃ papponti pāsaṃsā ca bhavanti teti.

therefore they attain greatness and become worthy of praise.

สัพพะวัตถุตตะมัง นัต๎วา พุทธะธัมมะคะณัตตะยัง

sabbavatthuttamaṃ natvā buddhadhammagaṇattayaṃ

Having bowed to the threefold Buddha, Dhamma and Sangha, highest of all things,

เชคุจฉกายะมัจจานัง โมกขุปายัง วะทามิหัง.

jegucchakāyamaccānaṃ mokkhupāyaṃ vadāmihaṃ.

I shall tell the way to liberation for mortals of this foul body.

ปาฏิโมกขัง ปูเรตัพพัง อะโถ อินท๎ริยะสังวะโร

pāṭimokkhaṃ pūretabbaṃ atho indriyasaṃvaro

The Patimokkha is to be fulfilled, and restraint of the faculties,

อาชีวัสสะ อะโถ สุทธิ อะโถ ปัจจะยะนิสสิตัง.

ājīvassa atho suddhi atho paccayanissitaṃ.

and purity of livelihood, and reflection on the requisites.

จาตุปาริสุทธิสีลัง กาตัพพัง วะ สุนิมมะลัง

cātupārisuddhisīlaṃ kātabbaṃ va sunimmalaṃ

The fourfold purity of virtue is to be made spotless,

การะณากะระเณเหวะ ภิกขุนา โมกขะเมสินา.

kāraṇākaraṇeheva bhikkhunā mokkhamesinā.

by doing and not doing, by the monk who seeks liberation.

พุทธานุสสะติ เมตตา จะ อะสุภัง มะระณัสสะติ

buddhānussati mettā ca asubhaṃ maraṇassati

Recollection of the Buddha, loving-kindness, the foul, mindfulness of death —

อิจจิมา จะตุรารักขา กาตัพพา จะ วิปัสสะนา.

iccimā caturārakkhā kātabbā ca vipassanā.

these four protections are to be developed, and insight too.

วิสุทธะธัมมะสันตาโน อะนุตตะรายะ โพธิยา

visuddhadhammasantāno anuttarāya bodhiyā

He whose stream of states is purified, by unsurpassed awakening,

โยคะโต จะ ปะโพธา จะ พุทโธ พุทโธติ ญายะเต.

yogato ca pabodhā ca buddho buddhoti ñāyate.

by application and by awakening, is known as Buddha, the Awakened One.

นะรานะระติรัจฉานะ เภทา สัตตา สุเขสิโน

narānaratiracchāna bhedā sattā sukhesino

Beings of every kind — human, non-human and animal — seeking happiness:

สัพเพปิ สุขิโน โหนตุ สุขิตัตตา จะ เขมิโน

sabbepi sukhino hontu sukhitattā ca khemino

may they all be happy, and happy in themselves, and safe.

เกสะโลมาทิฉะวานัง อะยะเมวะ สะมุสสะโย,

kesalomādichavānaṃ ayameva samussayo,

This heap is nothing but hair of the head, hair of the body and the rest of the corpse,

กาโย สัพโพปิ เชคุจโฉ วัณณาทิโต ปะฏิกกุโล.

kāyo sabbopi jeguccho vaṇṇādito paṭikkulo.

the whole body is foul, repulsive in its colour and the rest.
