สัมพุทโธ โลเก อุปปันโน มะหาการุณิโก มุน,
Sambuddho loke uppanno mahākāruṇiko mun,
The Perfectly Awakened One, the greatly compassionate Sage, arose in the world,
ธัมมะจักกัง ปะวัตเตต๎วา โลเก อัปปะฏิวัตติยัง.
Dhammacakkaṃ pavattetvā loke appaṭivattiyaṃ.
and set rolling in the world the Wheel of Dhamma that none can turn back.
โลกัสสะ สังคะหัง กาตุง จะริต๎วา โลกะจาริกัง,
Lokassa saṅgahaṃ kātuṃ caritvā lokacārikaṃ,
To show kindness to the world he walked the world on his journeys,
ติวิธัง โลเก สัทธัมมัง สัมมะเทวะ ปะวัตติยัง.
Tividhaṃ loke saddhammaṃ sammadeva pavattiyaṃ.
setting the threefold true Dhamma rightly going in the world.
อะนุปุพเพนะ สาวัตถิง ปัต๎วา เชตะวะเน วะสัง,
Anupubbena sāvatthiṃ patvā jetavane vasaṃ,
Coming in due course to Sāvatthī and dwelling in the Jeta Grove,
สามะเณรานัง นิสสายะ จิตตัง กะถานุสิกขิตุง.
Sāmaṇerānaṃ nissāya cittaṃ kathānusikkhituṃ.
and having regard for the novices' minds, and for how they were to train,
อะนุญญาสิ ทะสะ สิกขา สามะเณเรหิ สิกขิตุง,
Anuññāsi dasa sikkhā sāmaṇerehi sikkhituṃ,
he allowed ten trainings for novices to train in;
สามะเณรานัง ทะสังคัง สิกขาปะทัง ภะณามะ เส.
Sāmaṇerānaṃ dasaṅgaṃ sikkhāpadaṃ bhaṇāma se.

สามเณรผู้เป็นหัวหน้าขึ้นต้นบทว่า อะนุญญาสิ โข นอกนั้นรับต่อ โส ภะคะวา ฯเปฯ พร้อมกันไป หยุดตามจุดลูกน้ำ ดังนี้. The senior sāmaṇera begins the passage with Anuññāsi kho, and the rest take it up from So bhagavā and so on, going on together, pausing at each comma, thus.

อะนุญญาสิ โข,
Anuññāsi kho,
He allowed —
โส ภะคะวา,
So bhagavā,
that Blessed One —
สามะเณรานัง ทะสะ สิกขาปะทานิ,
Sāmaṇerānaṃ dasa sikkhāpadāni,
ten training rules for novices,
เตสุ จะ สามะเณเรหิ สิกขิตุง:
Tesu ca sāmaṇerehi sikkhituṃ:
and that novices should train in them:
ปาณาติปาตา เวระมะณี,
Pāṇātipātā veramaṇī,
refraining from killing living beings,
อะทินนาทานา เวระมะณี,
Adinnādānā veramaṇī,
refraining from taking what is not given,
อะพ๎รัห๎มะจะริยา เวระมะณี,
Abrahmacariyā veramaṇī,
refraining from unchaste conduct,
มุสาวาทา เวระมะณี,
Musāvādā veramaṇī,
refraining from false speech,
สุราเมระยะมัชชะปะมาทัฏฐานา เวระมะณี,
Surāmerayamajjapamādaṭṭhānā veramaṇī,
refraining from liquor, wine and intoxicants, which are the ground of heedlessness,
วิกาละโภชะนา เวระมะณี,
Vikālabhojanā veramaṇī,
refraining from eating at the wrong time,
นัจจะคีตะวาทิตะวิสูกะทัสสะนา เวระมะณี,
Naccagītavāditavisūkadassanā veramaṇī,
refraining from dancing, singing, music and unseemly shows,
มาลาคันธะวิเลปะนะธาระณะมัณฑะนะวิภูสะนัฏฐานา เวระมะณี,
Mālāgandhavilepanadhāraṇamaṇḍanavibhūsanaṭṭhānā veramaṇī,
refraining from wearing garlands, scents and cosmetics, and from adorning and beautifying the body,
อุจจาสะยะนะมะหาสะยะนา เวระมะณี,
Uccāsayanamahāsayanā veramaṇī,
refraining from high and large beds,
ชาตะรูปะระชะตะปะฏิคคะหะณา เวระมะณีติ.
Jātarūparajatapaṭiggahaṇā veramaṇīti.
refraining from accepting gold and silver.
สามเณรอีกรูปหนึ่งขัดบทนาสะนังคะ 10 ต่อไป หยุดตามจุดลูกน้ำดังนี้. Another sāmaṇera goes on to chant the introductory verse to the ten grounds of expulsion, pausing at each comma, thus.
