เต เม นะโม เต จะ มัง ปาละยันตุ

Te me namo te ca maṃ pālayantu

to them my homage; and may they protect me.

นะมัตถุ พุทธานัง นะมัตถุ โพธิยา

Namatthu buddhānaṃ namatthu bodhiyā

Homage to the Buddhas, homage to the awakening;

นะโม วิมุตตานัง นะโม วิมุตติยา

Namo vimuttānaṃ namo vimuttiyā

homage to the liberated, homage to liberation.

อิมัง โส ปะริตตัง กัต๎วา โมโร จะระติ เอสะนา.

Imaṃ so parittaṃ katvā moro carati esanā.

Having made this paritta, the peacock goes about seeking his food.

อะเปตะยัญจักขุมา เอกะราชา

Apetayañcakkhumā ekarājā

Here he sets, the one with vision, the sole king,

หะริสสะวัณโณ ปะฐะวิปปะภาโส

Harissavaṇṇo paṭhavippabhāso

golden-hued, illumining the earth;

ตัง ตัง นะมัสสามิ หะริสสะวัณณัง ปะฐะวิปปะภาสัง

Taṃ taṃ namassāmi harissavaṇṇaṃ paṭhavippabhāsaṃ

him I salute, the golden-hued, the illuminer of the earth —

ตะยัชชะ คุตตา วิหะเรมุ รัตติง

Tayajja guttā viharemu rattiṃ

guarded by you this day, may we dwell through the night.

เย พ๎ราห๎มะณา เวทะคุ สัพพะธัมเม

Ye brāhmaṇā vedagu sabbadhamme

Those brahmins who are masters of knowledge in all things —

เต เม นะโม เต จะ มัง ปาละยันตุ

Te me namo te ca maṃ pālayantu

to them my homage; and may they protect me.

นะมัตถุ พุทธานัง นะมัตถุ โพธิยา

Namatthu buddhānaṃ namatthu bodhiyā

Homage to the Buddhas, homage to the awakening;

นะโม วิมุตตานัง นะโม วิมุตติยา

Namo vimuttānaṃ namo vimuttiyā

homage to the liberated, homage to liberation.

อิมัง โส ปะริตตัง กัต๎วา โมโร วาสะมะกัปปะยีติ.

Imaṃ so parittaṃ katvā moro vāsamakappayīti.

Having made this paritta, the peacock settles down to rest.

ปูเรนตัมโพธิสัมภาเร นิพพัตตัง วัฏฏะชาติยัง,

Pūrentambodhisambhāre nibbattaṃ vaṭṭajātiyaṃ,

Born as a quail while fulfilling the requisites of awakening,

ยัสสะ เตเชนะ ทาวัคคิ มะหาสัตตัง วิวัชชะยิ,

Yassa tejena dāvaggi mahāsattaṃ vivajjayi,

by whose power the forest fire turned aside from the Great Being;

เถรัสสะ สารีปุตตัสสะ โลกะนาเถนะ ภาสิตัง,

Therassa sāriputtassa lokanāthena bhāsitaṃ,

spoken by the Refuge of the World to the elder Sāriputta,

กัปปัฏฐายิ มะหาเตชัง ปะริตตันตัมภะณามะ เห.

Kappaṭṭhāyi mahātejaṃ parittantambhaṇāma he.

lasting an aeon and of great power: that paritta let us now recite.

อัตถิ โลเก สีละคุโณ สัจจัง โสเจยยะนุททะยา

Atthi loke sīlaguṇo saccaṃ soceyyanuddayā

There is in the world the quality of virtue, truth, purity and compassion;

เตนะ สัจเจนะ กาหามิ สัจจะกิริยะมะนุตตะรัง

Tena saccena kāhāmi saccakiriyamanuttaraṃ

by that truth I shall make an unsurpassed act of truth.

อาวัชชิต๎วา ธัมมะพะลัง สะริต๎วา ปุพพะเก ชิเน

Āvajjitvā dhammabalaṃ saritvā pubbake jine

Calling to mind the power of the Dhamma and recalling the Conquerors of old,

สัจจะพะละมะวัสสายะ สัจจะกิริยะมะกาสะหัง

Saccabalamavassāya saccakiriyamakāsahaṃ

relying on the power of truth, I made an act of truth:

สันติ ปักขา อะปัตตะนา สันติ ปาทา อะวัญจะนา

Santi pakkhā apattanā santi pādā avañcanā

There are wings, but they cannot fly; there are feet, but they cannot walk;
